Abhyankar =============== We have to carry forward this study of essential basics to get a bird’s eye view about प्रत्ययाः and धातवः and at the same time staying connected with the इत्-सूत्रम् 1-3-8 लशक्वतद्धिते  In अष्टाध्यायी detailed study of प्रत्ययाः starts from the सूत्रम् 3-1-1 प्रत्यय:  This सूत्रम् has just this single word प्रत्यय:. Obviously there is no different पदपाठः. There is no अनुवृत्तिः of any other word from any previous सूत्रम्. How does one interpret such a सूत्रम् ?  In the book I have,  the सूत्रम् is written as  सूत्रम् 3-1-1 प्रत्यय: ( 5-4-160 ) Since there is सूत्रक्रमाङ्कः ( 5-4-160 ), does it mean that the word प्रत्यय: has to have अनुवृत्तिः in all सूत्राणि up to ( 5-4-160 ) ? Abhyankar =============== To understand सूत्रम् 1-3-4 न विभक्तौ तुस्माः we need to also study  सूत्रम् ४.१.२ स्वौँजसमौच्छष्टाभ्याम्भिस्ङेभ्याम्भ्यस्ङसिँभ्याम्भ्यस्ङसोसाङ्ङ्योस्सुप्  पदपाठः - सुँ, औच्, अस्, अम्, औच्, शस्, टा, भ्याम्, भिस्, ङे, भ्याम्, भ्यस्, ङसिँ, भ्याम्, भ्यस्, ङस्, ओस्, आम्, ङि, ओस्, सुप्.
